What is Vision Therapy? Minimize

Vision therapy is a sequence of activities individually prescribed and monitored by A DEVELOPMENTAL vision doctor that take place in the doctor’s office and are designed to develop efficient visual-motor and visual perceptive-cognitive processing skills.  Vision Therapy sessions include procedures designed to enhance the brain's ability to control:

  • eye alignment
  • eye teaming ability and coordination
  • eye focusing abilities
  • eye movements accuracy
  • Visual processing speed and integration
Visual-motor skills and endurance are developed through the use of specialized computer and optical devices, including therapeutic lenses, prisms, and filters. During the final stages of therapy, the patient's newly acquired visual skills are reinforced and made automatic through repetition and by integration with motor and cognitive skills.
The goals of a prescribed vision therapy treatment are to achieve desired visual outcomes, alleviate the signs and symptoms; meet the patient’s needs, and improve the patient’s quality of life.”.
